TPL100 - From #81* - #71

Introduction | #100-#91 | #90-#81 | #81*-#71 | #70-#61 | #60-#51 | #50-#41 | #40-#31 | #30-#21 | #20-#11 | #10-#1

Welcome to part three of our countdown, and it's a very defense-heavy edition today, with only two players from the offensive side of the ball. Players #80-71 sees a mixture of greybearded veterans players and up-and-comers, and features some players with major question-marks hanging over their heads as they enter the 2012 season, from those returning from injury to those having to adapt to brand new schemes and formations.

As always, leave your thoughts in the comments below, tell us on Facebook  and tweet us @PullingLinemen, telling us why we're wrong, we'll respond to the best comments/arguments/insults in a 'TPL100' mailbag at the end of the countdown.

TPL Interviews... Chris Kluwe

Welcome to the first ever interview here at the Pulling Linemen, and we'd like to introduce Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe!

Kluwe is a 7 year NFL vet who signed with the Vikings after a brief stay in Seattle in 2005, having gone undrafted out of UCLA. Since then, he has played in 111 regular season games and recorded close to 25,000 punt yards, having only 1 blocked. Chris is also a very outspoken member of the player community, and a very funny one at that, who also plays bass in Minneapolis-based Alt-rock band Tripping Icarus.

With all this in mind, we were very excited when Chris agreed to answer some of our questions and be the subject of the first ever TPL Interview. You can find out his views on concussions, the Vilma vs. Goodell lawsuit and the NFL International Series after the jump...

Welcome back to part 2 of TPL100, our answer to the NFL's top 100 of 2012.

Today's installment features a bevy of young stars who have every chance of shooting up this ranking were we to do it in 2013 rather than falling out.

As ever, any comments and questions are welcome either on-site or via twitter (@PullingLinemen). The best and funniest will make it to our TPL Top 100 mailbag. Enjoy!

The Original Pulling Lineman

If I were to tell you that a 3x Pro Bowl, 5x All Pro player, named to the  1960s All-Decade team and the NFL 50th Anniversary Team, and winner of 5 (FIVE) NFL Championships was NOT a member of the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, would you believe me? Well, it’s true. And Jerry Kramer is the Original Pulling Lineman.

TPL100 - From #100 - #91

Introduction | #100-#91 | #90-#81 | #81*-#71 | #70-#61 | #60-#51 | #50-#41 | #40-#31 | #30-#21 | #20-#11 | #10-#1

Finally, the list that literally some of you might have been waiting for! The NFL Top 100, as voted for by the NFL players, has come in for a lot of criticism from fans, players and pundits alike. One of the biggest points of contention is exactly what the players were voting on: the best players in 2011? The order in which players should be taken in a complete re-do draft? How valuable they are to their franchise? For us, the brief was simple, the season starts tomorrow; who do you want on your team? We chose not to exclude players who are currently injured, unless we feel like their injury may significantly affect their level of play upon their return. Based on that one question, we have compiled our TPL100 Ranking for 2012. We'll be releasing our selections over the next 10 days, so keep checking in and follow us on twitter (@PullingLinemen) for news of new posts!

If the 2012 season began tomorrow, who would you want on your team?

======================================

It's that time of year, when the sun is in the sky, summer's just around the corner, there 100 days until the 2012 season opener, and the NFL Network are revealing their list of the top one hundred players in the league today, as voted for by current NFL players. So, with the NFL Network at the mid-point of revealing their list, what better time for The Pulling Linemen to release our list of the top 100?

The Other Pick 6

With the news that Kellen Winslow Jnr is now surplus to requirements in Tampa, I thought it might be a good time to look back over the last 15 years at the successes (and failures) of players drafted number 6 overall. It’s a selection that teams hope will provide them with a franchise players for years to come, but in many cases just gives them a headache and a load of cap space taken up by a bit-part player. It’s a bit early to cast aspersions on Dallas or Mo Claiborne, 2012s number 6 selection, so here’s the best, the worst and the rest from 1997-2011.

Vilma vs Goodell: Split Opinion

There’s only going to be one winner that comes out of Bountygate. The litigation lawyers. As of Thursday, suspended Saints Lineback Jonathan Vilma has filed a defamation lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, challenging him to produce hard evidence of what the NFL has claimed: that Vilma was part of a “pay-for-injure” policy at the Saints, reportedly led by former DC Gregg Williams. Vilma has always protested his innocence, and the Commish has come under criticism from numerous quarters (not least from the NFLPA), for not presenting the evidence they have that presumably firmly points the finger at Vilma and co.

The Pulling Linemen Way-Too-Early All-Rookie Team

Now that the draft is gone and rookies are starting to settle in to their new environments, it seems the perfect time for us to wildly speculate which prospects will fare best in their first season in the big leagues.

We've each named a starting D, a starting O, plus a K and a P, made entirely of 2012 draftees. Some surprise inclusions? Check after the list for a breakdown of some of the less obvious picks...
